My family is not Catholic. Can my child(ren) attend SJNA?

Although St. John Neumann Academy is a Catholic school, families who are members of other faith communities are most welcome. SJNA admits students of any race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin. We provide a safe and respectful environment for those who value an academic experience that integrates faith, character development, community service, and life skills.

If you are looking for a traditional, safe, faith-based, respectful, academically challenging environment for your child that will help them achieve their physical, moral, and academic best, then St. John Neumann Academy is the ideal school choice for your family. We offer Preschool – 8th Grade classes and our fabulous class sizes ensure that children can grow in friendships and our teachers can work closely with each student to help them be the best learner and overall young person they can be. What is the curriculum like at St. John Neumann Academy?

SJNA offers a well-rounded, vigorous curriculum that integrates academic excellence with faith-based teachings and character development. SJNA does not administer SOL tests. Instead, our students perform exceptionally well on the NWEA MAP standardized achievement tests and have also earned top honors in various academic competitions such as National History Day, Scripps National Spelling Bee, Creative Communications, and the Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Contest. Equally important as their academic accomplishments, the students demonstrate compassion and care for others by eagerly participating in service projects that reach out to people in our community and in other parts of the world.

Is tuition assistance available?

Yes, SJNA is committed to making quality education accessible to families who desire all that SJNA has to offer for their child(ren). To apply for Kindergarten – 8th Grade tuition assistance, apply on-line at www.online.factsmgt.com/aid. FACTS is an outside agency that will compute the need of each family and submit a tuition assistance recommendation to St. John Neumann Academy. Tuition assistance is reviewed annually and is not guaranteed from year to year. What are your school hours?

Arrival takes place each school day between 8:10 – 8:25 a.m. Homeroom period begins at 8:25. Dismissal takes place between 3:00 – 3:15. A Before School Program (open at 7:30 a.m.) and After School Program (available until 5:30) are also available. Occasional variations in regular school hours may occur due to holidays or faculty workdays. These variations are published in advance on the school’s academic year calendar and communicated via our website calendar, classroom newsletters, and weekly school e-newsletter. SJNA does not provide busing options.

What are your teachers’ qualifications?

Our PreK4 – 8th Grade teachers are certified and licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia meeting Virginia Department of Education standards. Additionally, each of our teachers and staff complete thorough background checks, are CPR and First Aid certified, and are VIRTUS trained. (www.virtus.org) We are proud of the fact that our school experiences very low turnover. Our collaborative faculty is made up of enthusiastic, dedicated, caring, and effective people who LOVE to teach!

Are school uniforms required?

Yes, uniforms are required for our Kindergarten – 8th Grade students. Uniform and dress code requirements can be found on our website as well as in the Parent/Student Handbook. FrenchToast.com is SJNA’s official uniform supplier.

Is SJNA accredited?

Yes, SJNA is accredited by Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA), a worldwide leader in accreditation and school improvement. Our school just completed the rigorous self-study process which culminated in a MSA review of all aspects of school life, teaching, learning, governance, financial well-being, and long-term strategic planning. For over 130 years, Middle States has been helping school leaders establish and reach their goals, develop strategic plans, promote staff development, and advance student achievement.
